How I Got Into Trikes Empty
PostSubject: How I Got Into Trikes   How I Got Into Trikes Icon_minitimeSat Sep 27, 2008 9:18 pm

In 1993 my wife and I had the great good fortune to sail as crew on an Aussie 53' motorsailor from Ventura California to Brisbane Australia. Once there we bought a used pop top Nissan "caravan" and spent five months touring the East coast of Oz. Late one afternoon as we were heading south toward Brisbane we spotted a small sign on a barbed wire fence that read "Microflights". The next morining we investigated and found a grass strip with the usual assortment of GA aircraft and one Airborne Edge with a 582 sitting on it. That was the first I had ever heard of trikes. My wife, who had soloed a Cessna 152 and promptly quit taking lessons, got to take the ride and when she came back down announced, "You can sell the boat, but you have to buy me one of these!" It took another 3 years but that is exactly what I did. Everything went well until Sport Pilot came along. Wife again refused to put up with FAA regs just so she could could continue to fly our two seat, now experimental, trike and has announced that I can now buy her a Northwing ATF soaring trike that needs no license. I haven't heard yet what it is I can sell to pay for it.
